Spring's air quality reflects its position north of Houston in Harris County, with vehicle emissions from I-45 and the surrounding suburban and commercial development contributing local sources. Gulf of Mexico southerly breezes provide warm-season ventilation, while the Houston Ship Channel petrochemical complex upwind contributes industrial background emissions under northerly wind conditions and the flat Gulf coastal terrain generally allows reasonable dispersal throughout the year.

Gulf Coast humidity and inland heat can each add their own seasonal pollution patterns.

Are air quality levels in Spring based on measurements or forecasts?

It is forecasts derived by downscaling forecasts provided by EU’s Copernicus Atmosphere Monitoring Service (CAMS) by taking into account local conditions such as traffic patterns. CAMS bases its forecast on satellite measurements of particles and chemical compounds in the atmosphere.
