Slidell's air quality reflects the northern Lake Pontchartrain shoreline in eastern Louisiana, with vehicle emissions from I-10 and I-59 and the surrounding mixed residential and timber processing corridor contributing local sources. Lake Pontchartrain's consistent lake breezes provide ventilation from the south, while the surrounding Louisiana pine forest and the lake's open geometry generally maintain moderate conditions better than the southern New Orleans industrial corridor.

When is air pollution at its worst in Slidell?
Air quality across Slidell rises and falls with the seasons: once the long summer ozone season ends, winter offers the year's cleanest air, but heat, humidity, and the local petrochemical industry combine to drive both ozone and particulate levels up for much of the summer. Hurricane season can occasionally disrupt normal pollution patterns, for better or worse depending on the storm.
Are air quality levels in Slidell based on measurements or forecasts?
It is forecasts derived by downscaling forecasts provided by EU’s Copernicus Atmosphere Monitoring Service (CAMS) by taking into account local conditions such as traffic patterns. CAMS bases its forecast on satellite measurements of particles and chemical compounds in the atmosphere. Airmine’s services were developed with support from the European Space Agency (ESA)’s Business Applications and Space Solutions (BASS) team.
