Seattle's air quality follows a clear seasonal pattern: rain-heavy winters keep the air unusually clean compared to much of the country, but August and September wildfire smoke can dominate the season, occasionally driving particulate levels sharply higher for several days. Coastal areas see relatively little of the smoke that can settle into inland valleys during fire season.

It is forecasts derived by downscaling forecasts provided by EU’s Copernicus Atmosphere Monitoring Service (CAMS) by taking into account local conditions such as traffic patterns. CAMS bases its forecast on satellite measurements of particles and chemical compounds in the atmosphere.
