Mesquite's air quality reflects the Dallas metropolitan area's eastern corridor, with vehicle emissions from I-30 and the surrounding commercial and light industrial character of this eastern Dallas suburb contributing elevated NOₓ. The flat North Texas plain provides reasonable wind dispersal, while the broader DFW metropolitan ozone challenge from vehicle and Barnett Shale gas emissions affects the entire metroplex, and summer heat and vehicle traffic density across the eastern Dallas corridor drive the primary warm-season ozone formation throughout the year.

When is air pollution at its worst in Mesquite?

Mesquite experiences a distinct seasonal swing in air quality — the cleanest air usually comes in the milder shoulder seasons of spring and autumn, whereas intense summer heat drives persistent ozone problems, particularly in and around the largest metro areas. Gulf Coast humidity and inland heat can each add their own seasonal pollution patterns.

Are air quality levels in Mesquite based on measurements or forecasts?

It is forecasts derived by downscaling forecasts provided by EU’s Copernicus Atmosphere Monitoring Service (CAMS) by taking into account local conditions such as traffic patterns. CAMS bases its forecast on satellite measurements of particles and chemical compounds in the atmosphere. Airmine’s services were developed with support from the European Space Agency (ESA)’s Business Applications and Space Solutions (BASS) team.
