Lebanon's air quality reflects its position in the Lebanon Valley between the Blue Mountain ridge and the surrounding farmland, with vehicle emissions from I-78 and Route 422 and the light manufacturing character contributing local sources. Agricultural ammonia from surrounding Lebanon County dairy and poultry farms is a distinctive regional contributor, while the valley's ridgelines provide modest topographic enclosure throughout the year.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is air quality bad in Lebanon right now?

When is air pollution at its worst in Lebanon?

Lebanon's air quality has a clear seasonal rhythm. Typically, the calmest air of the year usually arrives well after the summer ozone season fades, while extended summer heat waves, often worsened by regional haze, bring the toughest air quality stretch. Suburban and rural areas generally see less of the persistent traffic-driven pollution that affects the urban core.

Are air quality levels in Lebanon based on measurements or forecasts?

It is forecasts derived by downscaling forecasts provided by EU’s Copernicus Atmosphere Monitoring Service (CAMS) by taking into account local conditions such as traffic patterns. CAMS bases its forecast on satellite measurements of particles and chemical compounds in the atmosphere. Airmine’s services were developed with support from the European Space Agency (ESA)’s Business Applications and Space Solutions (BASS) team.
