Las Vegas's Summerlin air quality reflects the upscale western Las Vegas Valley master-planned community adjacent to the Spring Mountains, with vehicle traffic on US-95 and the surrounding suburban residential and commercial character contributing local sources. The Spring Mountains' cleaner westerly airflows provide marginally better background air than the eastern Las Vegas Valley, while the Mojave inversion layer still affects all valley communities and Summerlin generally maintains moderate Las Vegas metropolitan readings throughout most of the year.

Summerlin experiences the same seasonal air quality swings as the rest of Las Vegas, as the calmest, cleanest stretch usually falls between late autumn and early spring; by contrast, spring dust storms and summer ozone together make March through September the toughest stretch. Monsoon storms in July and August can either clear the air with rain or stir up dust ahead of the storm front.
Are air quality levels in Summerlin based on measurements or forecasts?
It is forecasts derived by downscaling forecasts provided by EU’s Copernicus Atmosphere Monitoring Service (CAMS) by taking into account local conditions such as traffic patterns. CAMS bases its forecast on satellite measurements of particles and chemical compounds in the atmosphere. Airmine’s services were developed with support from the European Space Agency (ESA)’s Business Applications and Space Solutions (BASS) team.
