Horizon West's air quality reflects the flat Orange County Florida terrain southwest of Orlando, with vehicle emissions from US-192 and SR-429 and the surrounding rapidly expanding resort and residential development contributing local sources. Afternoon sea breezes from both the Atlantic and Gulf coasts converge over central Florida providing reasonable ventilation, while summer ozone from Orlando metropolitan tourism and residential traffic and intense subtropical heat is the primary warm-season concern.

When is air pollution at its worst in Horizon West?
Horizon West's air quality follows a clear seasonal pattern. In short, the wetter summer months often see cleaner air, as frequent afternoon storms wash pollution out quickly, whereas without the wet season's regular storms, dry-season smoke can linger for days at a time. Sea breezes help disperse pollution on most days, though smoke from inland fires can still drift into populated areas.
Are air quality levels in Horizon West based on measurements or forecasts?
It is forecasts derived by downscaling forecasts provided by EU’s Copernicus Atmosphere Monitoring Service (CAMS) by taking into account local conditions such as traffic patterns. CAMS bases its forecast on satellite measurements of particles and chemical compounds in the atmosphere. Airmine’s services were developed with support from the European Space Agency (ESA)’s Business Applications and Space Solutions (BASS) team.
