Garland's air quality reflects the Dallas metropolitan area's North Texas basin, with vehicle emissions from I-635 and the George Bush Turnpike contributing elevated NOₓ in this northeastern Dallas suburb. The flat North Texas plain provides reasonable wind dispersal, while the broader DFW metropolitan ozone challenge from vehicle and Barnett Shale natural gas emissions affects the entire region, with summer ozone from the dense metroplex vehicle traffic being the primary warm-season concern throughout the year.
