Fairfield's air quality in California reflects the Suisun Valley's position in the Solano County Delta breeze corridor, with the Suisun Bay and the Carquinez Strait channelling San Francisco Bay Delta breezes that provide afternoon ventilation and some of the Bay Area's stronger inland wind exposure. Vehicle emissions from I-80 and Travis Air Force Base's military flight operations contribute elevated aviation NOₓ, while the Delta breeze's consistent afternoon penetration generally maintains moderate conditions compared to the more enclosed Sacramento Valley to the northeast.

Are air quality levels in Fairfield based on measurements or forecasts?
It is forecasts derived by downscaling forecasts provided by EU’s Copernicus Atmosphere Monitoring Service (CAMS) by taking into account local conditions such as traffic patterns. CAMS bases its forecast on satellite measurements of particles and chemical compounds in the atmosphere. Airmine’s services were developed with support from the European Space Agency (ESA)’s Business Applications and Space Solutions (BASS) team.
