Dublin's air quality in California reflects the Tri-Valley's partial topographic enclosure between the Diablo Range and the Las Trampas hills in the East Bay, with vehicle emissions from I-580 and I-680 the primary local sources. The Altamont Pass Delta breeze provides afternoon ventilation on most summer days, while summer wildfire smoke from surrounding East Bay hills is an increasingly frequent seasonal concern and morning temperature inversions are common in the enclosed valley.

When is air pollution at its worst in Dublin?

Dublin sees air quality change through the year — the cleanest air usually comes in winter, when storms periodically flush pollution out of the basin, whereas summer sunshine and heat drive some of the worst ozone readings in the country. Coastal breezes offer some relief compared to inland valley locations that see heavier smog buildup.

Are air quality levels in Dublin based on measurements or forecasts?

It is forecasts derived by downscaling forecasts provided by EU’s Copernicus Atmosphere Monitoring Service (CAMS) by taking into account local conditions such as traffic patterns. CAMS bases its forecast on satellite measurements of particles and chemical compounds in the atmosphere. Airmine’s services were developed with support from the European Space Agency (ESA)’s Business Applications and Space Solutions (BASS) team.
