Crater Lake National Park's air quality benefits from its elevated Southern Cascade Range volcanic plateau position at 1,900 metres, with consistent Pacific westerly winds providing reliable ventilation around the famous deep blue caldera. The remote wilderness setting and the elevated plateau position generally maintain excellent conditions with outstanding visibility, while summer wildfire smoke from surrounding Oregon forests is an increasingly severe seasonal concern affecting the extraordinary views into the caldera throughout the year.
