Pla del Real's dominant local factors are light construction dust and seasonal heating smoke in winter. Air quality is generally moderate, dictated mostly by how much traffic reaches the old core. Farmland just outside town contributes more to particulate levels than traffic does here.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is air quality bad in Pla del Real right now?
On 19 July 2026, overall air quality in Pla del Real is fair. AQI is the main air quality indicator at 35.4/100. Pollution peaks around 1:00 PM (O3: 35.4/100).
Will air quality be worse tomorrow in Pla del Real?
On 20 July 2026, air quality conditions in Pla del Real will be similar to today, with AQI forecast at fair at 35.9/100. Pollution peaks around 7:00 PM (O3: 35.9/100).
When is air pollution at its worst in Pla del Real?
Does air quality in Pla del Real vary by season? The winter months typically bring the weakest air quality of the year, as calm anticyclonic conditions trap vehicle and heating pollution near the surface. The transition into spring usually brings cleaner air, as more frequent rain and wind reduce the buildup of local pollution. Summer heat and intense sunlight drive photochemical ozone production, which can push afternoon air quality readings higher despite reduced winter-style pollution sources. The first rains of autumn typically help clear out any lingering summer dust or ozone, setting up milder conditions ahead of winter. Coastal sea breezes here usually aid dispersal, but summer visitor traffic and periodic dust intrusions from North Africa can still cause spikes.
Are air quality levels in Pla del Real based on measurements or forecasts?
It is forecasts derived by downscaling forecasts provided by EU’s Copernicus Atmosphere Monitoring Service (CAMS) by taking into account local conditions such as traffic patterns. CAMS bases its forecast on satellite measurements of particles and chemical compounds in the atmosphere. Airmine’s services were developed with support from the European Space Agency (ESA)’s Business Applications and Space Solutions (BASS) team.
Why doesn’t the forecast always reflect wildfire impacts?
Airmine’s forecast uses CAMS (Copernicus Atmosphere Monitoring Service) as its background atmospheric model. While CAMS includes wildfire emissions, these are derived from satellite observations and are not available in real time. During rapidly evolving wildfire events, there may therefore be a delay before increased emissions are incorporated into the model. As a result, the forecast may temporarily underestimate PM₂.₅ and other pollutants associated with wildfire smoke.
During rapidly evolving wildfire events, CAMS may lag by approximately 1–2 days before increased wildfire emissions are fully represented, which can lead to temporary underestimation of PM₂.₅ concentrations in Airmine’s forecast.
