Vanderbijlpark's air quality faces serious challenges as part of the Vaal Triangle industrial corridor, with the EVRAZ Highveld Steel and Vanadium works and surrounding chemical and manufacturing operations generating elevated industrial PM2.5 alongside vehicle traffic on the N1. Winter Highveld temperature inversions concentrate industrial and vehicle emissions across the Vaal River corridor, producing some of Gauteng's more persistently elevated industrial readings throughout the dry season.
