Springs' air quality reflects the East Rand industrial corridor east of Johannesburg, with gold mine legacy dust, vehicle traffic on the N17, and surrounding light industrial operations generating elevated PM2.5 and heavy metals. Winter Highveld temperature inversions concentrate mining dust and vehicle emissions across the East Rand plateau throughout the dry season.
