Savona's air quality reflects the Ligurian coastal position at the enclosed Letimbro river valley, with vehicle traffic on the A10 motorway and the Vado Ligure thermoelectric power station and coal terminal generating elevated industrial SO₂ and PM2.5 alongside the primary vehicle sources. The Tyrrhenian sea breezes provide coastal ventilation, while the surrounding Ligurian Apennines create topographic enclosure and the coal terminal's distinctive dust emissions represent the most locally significant industrial air quality source throughout the year.
