Neu-Ulm's air quality reflects the Danube valley at the Baden-Württemberg-Bavaria border adjacent to Ulm, with vehicle traffic on the A7 and A8 motorways and the surrounding manufacturing industry contributing local sources. The Swabian Alb to the north and the Bavarian foothills to the south create topographic variation, while the Danube valley provides the primary ventilation corridor and Neu-Ulm's position on the Bavarian side generally tracks at similar levels to neighbouring Ulm throughout the year.
