Zlín's air quality reflects the Dřevnice river valley in the Zlín highlands of eastern Moravia, with vehicle traffic on the R49 expressway and the surrounding Bata shoe manufacturing legacy and plastics and chemicals industry contributing local sources. The surrounding Beskydy and White Carpathian mountain ranges create significant topographic enclosure, while winter inversions in the valley can concentrate heating and industrial emissions and summer conditions are considerably better.
