Tianguá's air quality reflects the Ceará highland at 830 metres on the Ibiapaba plateau near the Piauí border, with vehicle emissions from the BR-222 and surrounding agricultural and eco-tourism operations contributing local sources. The elevated plateau position provides naturally good background dispersal, while consistent Atlantic trade wind influence at altitude generally maintains cleaner conditions than the lowland semi-arid Sertão below throughout most of the year.
