Suzano's air quality is significantly influenced by its position in the Alto Tietê industrial corridor east of São Paulo, with the Suzano Papel e Celulose pulp and paper complex and the surrounding industrial and logistics operations generating elevated PM2.5, VOCs, and characteristic paper mill emissions alongside vehicle traffic on the Ayrton Senna highway. The Serra do Mar escarpment creates topographic enclosure that concentrates the combined industrial and vehicle emissions under calm conditions in this eastern metropolitan corridor.
