Serra's air quality reflects its position as the most industrialised municipality in the Vitória metropolitan area in Espírito Santo, with ArcelorMittal's steel complex, Companhia Siderúrgica de Tubarão, and surrounding heavy industrial operations generating elevated PM10, SO₂, and heavy metals alongside vehicle traffic on the BR-101. The Atlantic ventilation from the Espírito Santo coast provides periodic relief, but Serra's industrial concentration makes it one of southeastern Brazil's more polluted metropolitan municipalities.
