Sabará's air quality reflects the iron quadrilateral east of Belo Horizonte, with iron ore mining and quarrying generating elevated PM10 and heavy metals alongside vehicle traffic on the MG-436. The Belo Horizonte basin's enclosed topography affects the eastern metropolitan corridor, while the surrounding iron-rich Espinhaço highlands contribute natural mineral dust that compounds the mining industry's particulate contributions.
