Pedro Leopoldo's air quality reflects the greater Belo Horizonte metropolitan area's northern karst plateau at 761 metres, with vehicle emissions from the BR-040 and surrounding limestone quarrying and cement operations generating elevated calcium dust PM10 alongside primary vehicle sources. The Belo Horizonte basin's poor dispersal characteristics partially influence this northern corridor, while the quarrying operations represent the most distinctive local PM10 contribution throughout the year.
