Patos' air quality reflects the Paraíba semi-arid interior Sertão, with vehicle emissions from the BR-361 and surrounding cotton and agave farming operations contributing local sources. Drought conditions and Caatinga burning contribute seasonal PM10 elevation, while the flat semi-arid terrain generally allows reasonable wind dispersal on most days and the semi-arid climate creates naturally dusty conditions during dry windy periods throughout the year.
