Marabá's air quality faces severe seasonal challenges as one of the Pará Amazon's largest cities and a major iron ore and steel production hub, with the Parauapebas iron ore mining corridor's dust and the Alpa steelworks contributing industrial PM10 alongside vehicle emissions from the BR-222 and dry season Amazon burning. The flat southeastern Pará Amazon basin's calm dry season conditions allow industrial and fire smoke to accumulate across the entire greater Carajás region between July and October.
