Itaberaba's air quality reflects the Paraguaçu river valley in the Bahia semi-arid Sertão, with vehicle emissions from the BR-242 and surrounding cattle, sisal, and agricultural operations contributing local sources. The Diamantina highlands create topographic variation, while drought conditions and Caatinga burning contribute seasonal PM10 elevation across the semi-arid region and the river valley provides limited ventilation corridors on northerly and southerly wind days throughout the year.
