Iguatu's air quality reflects the Ceará semi-arid interior Sertão in the Jaguaribe river valley, with vehicle emissions from the BR-116 and surrounding cotton, corn, and livestock operations contributing local sources. The flat semi-arid terrain generally allows reasonable wind dispersal, while drought conditions and Caatinga burning contribute seasonal PM10 and PM2.5 elevation during dry periods, and the inland position reduces the coastal trade wind ventilation benefit.
