Humaitá's air quality faces severe seasonal challenges as an Amazonas state city on the Madeira-Amazon confluence, with dry season burning from surrounding Amazon deforestation generating intense PM2.5 episodes between June and October. Vehicle emissions from the BR-319 contribute year-round, while the Amazon river system's wide corridor provides limited ventilation and the flat western Amazon basin's calm dry season conditions allow fire smoke to accumulate extensively throughout the region.
