Gurupi's air quality reflects the Tocantins state interior at 274 metres on the Tocantins agricultural frontier, with vehicle emissions from the BR-153 Belém-Brasília highway and surrounding soybean and cattle agribusiness contributing local sources. Dry season burning from surrounding Cerrado agricultural land contributes seasonal PM2.5 variation between June and September, while the flat interior plateau terrain generally allows reasonable dispersal and the agricultural burning dominates the seasonal air quality profile.
