Formosa's air quality reflects the greater Brasília metropolitan area's Goiás Entorno district at 912 metres, with vehicle emissions from the BR-020 and surrounding mixed agricultural and urban character of this major Brasília satellite city contributing local sources. Dry season burning from surrounding Cerrado agricultural land contributes severe seasonal PM2.5 variation between June and September, while the elevated Central Plateau position aids background dispersal throughout the rest of the year.
