Esmeraldas' air quality in Brazil reflects the greater Belo Horizonte metropolitan area's northwestern ring, with vehicle emissions from the MG-010 and surrounding mixed industrial and residential character contributing elevated PM2.5. The enclosed Belo Horizonte basin's poor dispersal characteristics affect the entire northern and western metropolitan corridors, particularly during the dry winter months when Minas Gerais highland inversions concentrate emissions throughout the year.
