Cajazeiras' air quality reflects the Paraíba semi-arid Sertão interior at 293 metres in the upper Piranhas-Açu basin, with vehicle emissions from the BR-230 Transnordestina highway and surrounding cattle, cotton, and subsistence farming contributing local sources. Drought conditions and Caatinga burning contribute seasonal PM10 elevation, while the flat semi-arid terrain allows reasonable dispersal on most days and the inland position reduces beneficial Atlantic trade wind coastal ventilation throughout the year.
