Caicó's air quality reflects the Rio Grande do Norte semi-arid Seridó interior at 168 metres in the upper Piranhas river basin, with vehicle emissions from the BR-226 and surrounding cotton, goat, and ceramics industry contributing local sources. Drought conditions and Caatinga burning contribute seasonal PM10 elevation, while the flat Seridó semi-arid terrain generally allows reasonable wind dispersal on most days and the inland position reduces the beneficial Atlantic trade wind coastal ventilation throughout the dry season.
