Brumado's air quality reflects the Bahia semi-arid Sertão at 456 metres in the Espinhaço highlands foothills, with vehicle emissions from the BR-030 and surrounding nickel and magnesite mining operations — Brumado being one of Brazil's main magnesite producers — contributing elevated mineral dust PM10 alongside primary vehicle sources. The semi-arid terrain generally allows reasonable dispersal, while Caatinga burning contributes seasonal PM2.5 variation throughout the year.
