Bragança Paulista's air quality reflects its position in the São Paulo state interior highlands at 856 metres in the Serra da Mantiqueira foothills, with vehicle emissions from the SP-360 and the surrounding textile, ceramics, and agribusiness industry contributing local sources. The elevated Serra da Mantiqueira position aids background dispersal and provides cleaner conditions than lowland metropolitan São Paulo, while the mountain terrain creates complex topographic ventilation patterns and the surrounding Atlantic Forest remnants provide a natural clean-air buffer.
