The São Francisco valley provides reasonable wind ventilation corridors, while drought conditions and Caatinga burning contribute seasonal PM10 elevation across the semi-arid region and the river valley's channelling of winds generally maintains moderate conditions compared to the more enclosed Sertão areas.
