Araxá's air quality reflects the Minas Gerais western highlands at 1,004 metres, with the Vale niobium and FOSFERTIL phosphate mining and processing operations generating elevated mineral PM10 and fluoride emissions alongside vehicle traffic on the BR-262. The elevated plateau position aids background dispersal, while the mining operations' distinctive mineral dust represents the most significant departure from standard urban vehicle-dominated air quality profiles.
