Alta Floresta's air quality faces severe seasonal challenges as a major Mato Grosso Amazon frontier city, with dry season burning from surrounding deforestation generating intense PM2.5 episodes between June and October. Vehicle emissions from the BR-163 contribute year-round, while the flat northern Mato Grosso Amazon basin's calm dry season conditions allow fire smoke to accumulate extensively and Alta Floresta's position at the heart of Brazil's most active historical deforestation corridor makes this one of the most severely affected seasonal air quality environments.
