Facing the sheltered waters of Cockburn Sound, Rockingham enjoys the same steady sea breezes that define much of coastal southwest Western Australia, giving it consistently clean background air through most of the year. Low humidity and dry summers are typical of the Mediterranean climate here, with limited agricultural dust given the coastal, largely residential setting. The main seasonal concern arrives in the December-to-March bushfire season, when smoke from fires in the Perth hills or further south can occasionally drift over the town. Outside these episodes, onshore winds off the Indian Ocean keep pollutant levels low and skies clear.
