Local Environmental Conditions
With little dense development around this site in Perisher Valley, local traffic emissions are modest. The open grass and scrubland around the area can add dust in dry weather and smoke from occasional fires. Light average winds mean local emissions are not always carried away quickly. Pollution carried in from the wider region can also raise levels at times.
Summers are mild, averaging around 18°C in the warmest month, so ozone usually stays moderate even from January to February. From May to September, temperatures near 4°C, with winds of around 5 km/h, let smoke and particles from wood burning and traffic build up, especially on cold, still mornings. Nitrogen dioxide from traffic tends to be highest around the morning and evening commutes.

When is air pollution at its worst in convoy branding with arrow - on ccb?
Summers are mild, averaging around 18°C in the warmest month, so ozone usually stays moderate even from January to February. From May to September, temperatures near 4°C, with winds of around 5 km/h, let smoke and particles from wood burning and traffic build up, especially on cold, still mornings. Nitrogen dioxide from traffic tends to be highest around the morning and evening commutes.
Are air quality levels in convoy branding with arrow - on ccb based on measurements or forecasts?
It is forecasts derived by downscaling forecasts provided by EU’s Copernicus Atmosphere Monitoring Service (CAMS) by taking into account local conditions such as traffic patterns. CAMS bases its forecast on satellite measurements of particles and chemical compounds in the atmosphere. Airmine’s services were developed with support from the European Space Agency (ESA)’s Business Applications and Space Solutions (BASS) team.
Why doesn’t the forecast always reflect wildfire impacts?
Airmine’s forecast uses CAMS (Copernicus Atmosphere Monitoring Service) as its background atmospheric model. While CAMS includes wildfire emissions, these are derived from satellite observations and are not available in real time. During rapidly evolving wildfire events, there may therefore be a delay before increased emissions are incorporated into the model. As a result, the forecast may temporarily underestimate PM₂.₅ and other pollutants associated with wildfire smoke.
During rapidly evolving wildfire events, CAMS may lag by approximately 1–2 days before increased wildfire emissions are fully represented, which can lead to temporary underestimation of PM₂.₅ concentrations in Airmine’s forecast.
Understanding the Scale
The 0–100 air quality scores represent risk levels, not direct air pollutant concentrations. Higher scores indicate higher risk.
Air Quality
| Good | 0-20 | Low air quality risk. Air quality is expected to be good, with low levels of pollution. |
| Fair | 20-40 | Generally low air quality risk. Air quality is expected to be acceptable, with some pollution present. |
| Moderate | 40-60 | Moderate air quality risk. Air pollution is elevated and air quality may be less favorable. |
| Poor | 60-80 | High air quality risk. Air pollution is high and air quality is expected to be poor. |
| Very Poor | 80-100 | Very high air quality risk. Air pollution is very high and air quality is expected to be very poor. |
