Near Port Stephens on the New South Wales coast, Pacific Dunes is bordered by the forested bushland typical of this stretch of shoreline, giving the course reasonably good natural ventilation from onshore winds most of the year. That bushland setting is also the main air quality consideration, since it raises the likelihood of smoke drifting across the fairways whenever bushfires take hold nearby during the region's summer and early autumn fire season. Otherwise, being away from major roads and industry, the course generally enjoys the clean coastal air characteristic of this part of the New South Wales coast.
