Bilbao's pollen season runs from January through July, opening with hazel and alder from January before oak and birch peak through April and May. Grass pollen peaks through June and July. The Atlantic-facing Basque climate means frequent rainfall provides more regular interruptions than in drier parts of Spain, while surrounding Basque Country woodland and the Cantabrian Mountain foothills contribute substantial tree and grass pollen throughout the season.
