Local Environmental Conditions
Built-up land and woodland share the area around the center of Lisieux, plus some open grassland. Of the trees nearby, maple and hazel are the ones that matter most for allergies. Grasses are a major source, with plantain adding to the weed pollen load. Around here, planted trees and mown lawns are the main sources in the built-up parts.
First to flower is hazel, in late winter. Maple follows in early spring, as temperatures climb to around 10°C, and tree pollen reaches its peak. Then come the grasses, strongest in early summer and fading by late summer. Later, plantain keeps weed pollen in the air from late spring into early fall. By early winter, as temperatures fall to around 5°C, pollen levels are low again.

Does pollen in Lisieux come from nearby or far away?
Studies show that most pollen exposure (often 70–90%) comes from nearby sources, such as local trees and vegetation. A good pollen forecast therefore depends on accurately representing local vegetation. Pollen can travel long distances, but this usually matters only early in the season or during specific wind events.
Are pollen levels in Lisieux based on measurements or forecasts?
Pollen data is often misunderstood. Most "pollen levels" are not real-time measurements, but forecasts.
Direct pollen measurements are typically delayed by 1-2 days because they require manual analysis. To show current conditions in Lisieux, modern forecasts combine recent measurements, weather data, and information about local vegetation.
This allows us to estimate pollen levels for today and the coming days, not just report the past.
