Local Environmental Conditions
The landscape around the heart of Le Mans is densely built up, with some woodland. Close to the Sarthe River, riverside trees such as willow, poplar and alder add to local tree pollen. Allergenic trees nearby include oak, hazel and maple. Grass pollen is plentiful, while plantain and pigweed lead among the weeds.
The pollen year starts in late winter, when hazel flowers. Tree pollen peaks in late spring, when the weather warms to around 15°C and oak and maple are in full flower. Grasses take over in early summer, with temperatures around 20°C, and their pollen lingers into late summer. Plantain and pigweed bring a final peak from late spring into early fall. By early winter, pollen levels are low again.

Does pollen in Le Mans come from nearby or far away?
Studies show that most pollen exposure (often 70–90%) comes from nearby sources, such as local trees and vegetation. A good pollen forecast therefore depends on accurately representing local vegetation. Pollen can travel long distances, but this usually matters only early in the season or during specific wind events.
Are pollen levels in Le Mans based on measurements or forecasts?
Pollen data is often misunderstood. Most "pollen levels" are not real-time measurements, but forecasts.
Direct pollen measurements are typically delayed by 1-2 days because they require manual analysis. To show current conditions in Le Mans, modern forecasts combine recent measurements, weather data, and information about local vegetation.
This allows us to estimate pollen levels for today and the coming days, not just report the past.
