Local Environmental Conditions
Around 52% of the area near the center of Grasse is built-up land, with a good deal of woodland. Among allergenic trees nearby, oak leads, followed by juniper and olive. Beyond the trees, grasses matter a great deal, and plantain and mugwort are the main weed sources. Compared with most places, oak is especially widespread here, which makes it one of the key local allergens.
Oak, juniper and olive lead the season in mid-spring, as temperatures climb to around 15°C, and tree pollen reaches its peak. Grasses take over in late spring, with temperatures around 20°C, and their pollen lingers into early fall. Plantain and mugwort flower through much of the warmer half of the year. The oak period in mid-spring is usually the most intense time of year here.

Does pollen in Grasse come from nearby or far away?
Studies show that most pollen exposure (often 70–90%) comes from nearby sources, such as local trees and vegetation. A good pollen forecast therefore depends on accurately representing local vegetation. Pollen can travel long distances, but this usually matters only early in the season or during specific wind events.
Are pollen levels in Grasse based on measurements or forecasts?
Pollen data is often misunderstood. Most "pollen levels" are not real-time measurements, but forecasts.
Direct pollen measurements are typically delayed by 1-2 days because they require manual analysis. To show current conditions in Grasse, modern forecasts combine recent measurements, weather data, and information about local vegetation.
This allows us to estimate pollen levels for today and the coming days, not just report the past.

Understanding the Scale
The 0–100 pollen scores represent risk levels, not direct pollen measurements. Higher scores indicate higher risk.
