Local Environmental Conditions
Most of the area around the center of Karlovo is built-up land, with a good deal of farmland. Around here, open grassland and farmland add grass and weed pollen; street trees, parks and lawns are the main sources in the built-up parts. Pasture and uncultivated field edges in the farmland provide room for grasses and weeds.
Grasses take over in early summer and keep pollen in the air into early fall. Weeds on open ground add a smaller late peak from early summer into early fall. By late fall, as temperatures fall to around 5°C, pollen levels are low again. Actual levels on any given day depend on the weather, with dry, breezy days the worst and wet days the mildest.

Does pollen in Karlovo come from nearby or far away?
Studies show that most pollen exposure (often 70–90%) comes from nearby sources, such as local trees and vegetation. A good pollen forecast therefore depends on accurately representing local vegetation. Pollen can travel long distances, but this usually matters only early in the season or during specific wind events.
Are pollen levels in Karlovo based on measurements or forecasts?
Pollen data is often misunderstood. Most "pollen levels" are not real-time measurements, but forecasts.
Direct pollen measurements are typically delayed by 1-2 days because they require manual analysis. To show current conditions in Karlovo, modern forecasts combine recent measurements, weather data, and information about local vegetation.
This allows us to estimate pollen levels for today and the coming days, not just report the past.
