Vallejo's air quality reflects the San Pablo Bay waterfront position at the northern end of San Francisco Bay, with the former Mare Island Naval Shipyard's industrial legacy and the I-80 Carquinez Bridge freight corridor generating concentrated vehicle and industrial emissions. The Carquinez Strait Delta breeze from Sacramento provides afternoon ventilation, while the surrounding Napa and Solano hills create topographic variation and summer wildfire smoke from the North Bay and Napa County mountains is an increasingly frequent severe seasonal concern.

CAMS bases its forecast on satellite measurements of particles and chemical compounds in the atmosphere.
