Lodi's air quality in California reflects the San Joaquin Valley's enclosed basin position north of Stockton, sharing the valley's notorious pollution trap between the Sierra Nevada and the Coast Range. Vehicle emissions from SR-99 and surrounding wine and agricultural operations contribute PM2.5, while the Bay Delta breeze provides some afternoon ventilation and summer ozone from the valley's combined agricultural and vehicle sources produces some of California's highest seasonal readings.

When is air pollution at its worst in Lodi?
Like most US cities, Lodi sees air quality shift from season to season — winter typically brings the cleanest stretch, once occasional rain clears the basin, whereas from August into October, wildfire smoke can add sharp particulate spikes on top of the usual summer ozone. Coastal breezes offer some relief compared to inland valley locations that see heavier smog buildup.
Are air quality levels in Lodi based on measurements or forecasts?
It is forecasts derived by downscaling forecasts provided by EU’s Copernicus Atmosphere Monitoring Service (CAMS) by taking into account local conditions such as traffic patterns. CAMS bases its forecast on satellite measurements of particles and chemical compounds in the atmosphere. Airmine’s services were developed with support from the European Space Agency (ESA)’s Business Applications and Space Solutions (BASS) team.
