The dominant factor behind Hastings's air quality is open south-central Nebraska farmland air; air quality is generally good outside of ragweed season. Day-to-day conditions in Hastings can still vary with local weather, wind direction, and time of year. None of this replaces checking the current forecast before heading outdoors in Hastings.

Is air quality bad in Hastings right now?
On 9 August 2026, overall air quality in Hastings is poor. AQI is the main air quality indicator at 64.8/100. Pollution peaks around 11:00 PM (NO2: 64.8/100).
Will air quality be worse tomorrow in Hastings?

When is air pollution at its worst in Hastings?
Hastings sees air quality change through the year, as a quiet stretch in deep winter is often the cleanest time, once the growing-season dust has settled; by contrast, the combination of windy spring dust and hot, still summer days makes for the toughest stretch of the year. Because the land is so open here, air quality tends to bounce back quickly once the wind returns.
Are air quality levels in Hastings based on measurements or forecasts?
It is forecasts derived by downscaling forecasts provided by EU’s Copernicus Atmosphere Monitoring Service (CAMS) by taking into account local conditions such as traffic patterns. CAMS bases its forecast on satellite measurements of particles and chemical compounds in the atmosphere. Airmine’s services were developed with support from the European Space Agency (ESA)’s Business Applications and Space Solutions (BASS) team.
Why doesn’t the forecast always reflect wildfire impacts?
Airmine’s forecast uses CAMS (Copernicus Atmosphere Monitoring Service) as its background atmospheric model. While CAMS includes wildfire emissions, these are derived from satellite observations and are not available in real time. During rapidly evolving wildfire events, there may therefore be a delay before increased emissions are incorporated into the model. As a result, the forecast may temporarily underestimate PM₂.₅ and other pollutants associated with wildfire smoke.
During rapidly evolving wildfire events, CAMS may lag by approximately 1–2 days before increased wildfire emissions are fully represented, which can lead to temporary underestimation of PM₂.₅ concentrations in Airmine’s forecast.
