Death Valley National Park's air quality reflects the Mojave Desert's most extreme enclosed basin position, with the valley floor at minus 86 metres surrounded by the Panamint and Amargosa ranges creating one of the world's most severe topographic pollution traps under calm conditions. The extreme desert heat and occasional dusty haboob events generate elevated PM10, while remote natural dust and the extraordinary temperature extremes create unique desert air quality dynamics, though the remote location maintains relatively low anthropogenic emissions throughout the year.
