Dalton's air quality reflects the Tennessee Valley's position in the carpet manufacturing capital of the world, with vehicle emissions from I-75 and the surrounding carpet, textile, and chemical manufacturing generating elevated VOCs and industrial PM2.5 alongside primary vehicle sources. The surrounding Appalachian ridgelines create topographic enclosure, while summer ozone from biogenic Appalachian VOC emissions combining with industrial and vehicle NOₓ is the primary warm-season concern throughout the year.

Is air quality bad in Dalton right now?
On 16 July 2026, overall air quality in Dalton is fair. AQI is the main air quality indicator at 39.0/100. Pollution peaks around 8:00 PM (NO2: 39.0/100).
Will air quality be worse tomorrow in Dalton?
On 17 July 2026, air quality conditions in Dalton will be similar to today, with PM2.5 forecast at fair at 33.7/100. Pollution peaks around 11:00 PM (NO2: 40.3/100).
When is air pollution at its worst in Dalton?
Conditions in Dalton vary noticeably across the seasons. Typically, once summer humidity fades, winter typically offers the most consistently clean air, while summer heat, humidity, and emissions from surrounding forests combine to drive ozone levels up. Occasional agricultural or prescribed-burning smoke can add short-lived particulate spikes outside the main summer ozone season.
Are air quality levels in Dalton based on measurements or forecasts?
It is forecasts derived by downscaling forecasts provided by EU’s Copernicus Atmosphere Monitoring Service (CAMS) by taking into account local conditions such as traffic patterns. CAMS bases its forecast on satellite measurements of particles and chemical compounds in the atmosphere. Airmine’s services were developed with support from the European Space Agency (ESA)’s Business Applications and Space Solutions (BASS) team.
